A REAL Olympian
Quote – “Circumstances may appear to wreck our lives and God's plans, but God is not helpless among the ruins. God's love is still working. He comes in and takes the calamity and uses it victoriously, working out His wonderful plan of love.” Eric Liddell
A word from the pastor – Many of you have seen the movie Chariots of Fire which tells the story of the Scottish hero Eric Liddell’s Olympic exploits. He won the gold medal in Paris in 1924 for 400-meter final. His parents were missionaries to China and he was born there. After the Olympics, he entered the work that would stand for eternity. He went back to China as a missionary with China Inland Missions. The day after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, they ordered all the foreigners where Liddell was serving to go to internment camps. Conditions were appalling. As the long line of over 2000 missionaries, their children, and other foreigners snaked its way across the city to the first camp, at the head of the line, Eric Liddell broke into a song based on Psalm 46 that they all knew. “God is our refuge and help, in trouble a very present help.”
