"Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom."  A wise person knows when to hold his tongue, but James switches gears on us hear from the tongue to talking about harboring bitterness, envy and strife in our hearts.  A lot of times this can come from things people say about us that cause us to be bitter or angry with them.  James asks who among you is wise let him show it in his conversation and in how he lives his life.  Meekness is not weakness, but humble.

"But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth."  In other words, if you say "I love the Lord", but you are bitter and angry at someone else and will not forgive them, this is not what should be in our hearts.  He expresses just that in the next verse.

"This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish."  A person who lives with bitterness, envying and strife in their life is not thinking clearly.  James says this kind of living is earthly, sensual and devilish.

"For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work."  A relationship filled with envying and strife is simply good for nothing.  Living a life filled with envying and strife will accomplish absolutely nothing for God.  Is that your life?  Don't let bitterness fill your heart!
