Read: James 3:9-12 Memorize: James 3:10 Pastor Josh November 12-18, 2015
"Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God." In this verse James continues his thoughts on tongue, saying that out of the mouth comes blessing to God and also cursing. This reminds me of a person who goes to Church on Sunday and praises the Lord and talks about all God has done for them, and then on Monday they are at work telling dirty jokes and cursing with their co-workers. We would call this kind of person a hypocrite. This is not the kind of person a christian should be. It is not a good testimony to others if you say you are a christian and then in the next breath start cursing. Notice what he says in the next verse.
"Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be." Let it not be so! The life of a christian is to be different from the world. James is going to paint a picture for us in the next two verses about how blessing and cursing cannot come from the same heart.
"Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh." See, you can't go to a lake one day and find fresh water and then the next day go to the same lake and find salt water. A christian shouldn't praise the Lord one minute and then curse the next.
According to the next passages where does evil speaking and cursing originate? Matthew 15:18-20 and Mark 7:21-23. So according to these passages what comes out of our mouths is a heart issue!
