Read: James 4:11-12                                 Memorize: James 4:12                                 Pastor Josh                                 January 14-20, 2016

In the first verse of this weeks study who is James talking to in the following verse, "Speak not evil one of another, brethren.  He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge."  We have said from the beginning that this book is written to help christians in their daily life.  The one of another is talking about fellow believers.  Gossip is a disease that hurts others around us.  Some people love to gossip.  Based on the following verses how does God feel about evil speaking (Ephesians 4:31, I Peter 2:1, Colossians 3:8).

When the Bible speaks of the evils of judging each other it always mentions slander and evil speaking.  There is a difference between judging others and destroying their reputations and truly confronting them of sin.  Titus 1:13 "his witness is true.  Wherefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith;"  These verses are a reminder that we are not the judge of other people but should judge ourselves.

"There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?"  There is only one judge and it is God.  Verse 12 is basically saying who do you think you are to put yourself above God and His Word?  Let's examine our own hearts of sin and not seek to slander others.
