Just two short verses this week but they are packed with truth.  "Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord.  Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain."  We talked about patience in the first chapter of James.  Here he is talking about us being faithful until the Lord returns.  If you seek to serve the Lord with your life, you will face persecution.  However, if you patiently endure the difficulties you will be rewarded in the future.

Now James gives a picture of patiently living in light of the Lord's return.  You know what a husbandman is, right?  It's a farmer!  We all know a farmer has to plant his crops, then he waits patiently for the rain to come, he also tends to his garden to help the plants grow, and then in the end he gets a reward for his labor.  It is the same thing we should be doing in our christian lives.  Waiting patiently for the Lord to send the rain, but at the same time cultivating our hearts and lives so that we can grow.  How patient are you in waiting on God to provide for your needs?  Are you tending to your heart and life so that you can grow in your christian life?

Verse 8 says, "Be ye also paitent; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh."  If you knew exactly when God was going to return would it change how you live?  That's why God hasn't revealed that to us, He wants us to be patient and to wait on Him.  He wants us to stablish or establish our hearts for Him.  He asks you to be a patient farmer, to grow an abundant crop for Him.  When Christ returns to take us home to heaven, we need to be ready.  That's why He wants us to live every day as if it was the day He were to return for us.  Are you ready?
